Hello! My name is Emma Shumway and I am a young professional living in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Although the children of children yanks, I was born and raised in Georgia. In undergrad, I started off as a major in International Affairs and Modern Languages (because of interest in languages and cultures and because of career practicability.) Yes I speak probably too many languages to use in my daily life but yet still probably not enough or not well enough as I would like. But my undeniable love of History got a hold of me, and I had too many people ask, "so are you going to be a history teacher?" that I added a second major to study History as well. My college doesn't have a strict HISTORY major, but rather, the title is 'History, Technology, and Society,' and so it's more of a tech-based approach to examining history and improving society. My specialization (you can probably guess) was Early U.S. Society and Politics. I studied how democracies grow and sustain themselves in the first fifty years (and the inherent problems therein). I love it incredibly. While history is my passion, my ultimate career goals are to work in either missions or security missions field, improving development, international security, and sustainable state-building worldwide. I am a member of the United Methodist Church and it is my calling to tell stories, not just about history, but about the greatest story of all: the love story of God seeking to reunite himself with his world that was lost. In the same way that I think history is amazing and I can't be eager enough to share all about it, I desire to tell the world about the love and pursuit that is coming after them daily, and the sacrificial love that God pursues his children with. My birthday is October 28th, (that's Scorpio for anyone who finds it enlightening to know,) I am a textbook ENTP of the Meyers Briggs personality types, and although I live in Albuquerque now, my hometown is good ol' mill town: Roswell, Georgia. If you haven't figured by now: I love adventures, storytelling, music-making, and abundant excesses of imagination. We can blame my high school AP US History teacher for making me fall in love with the art of history. All that being said, I hope to infect more of you with the passion, and if you have any questions or suggestions, follow me on instagram as @deadventuretime! |
My Graveyard Playlist...
I've put together this playlist which allows for reflection on life and death, sorrow and joy. This is usually my go-to listen for when I'm solo-exploring graveyard. I recommend giving it a listen. Updated monthly!
What I'm reading...
"Emma," you might ask, " but HOW do you know so much stuff about history?" Most of it comes from some handy dandy books I've been reading. I'm always reading. (I can stop anytime, I promise). See my history bookshelf on Goodreads below to take a look for yourself!
