Thomas Heyward Jr.
I took my friends to the beach to secretly actually make them help me find the elusive South Carolinian signers.
How to get there:
Okay, buckle up, because Thomas Heyward is buried deep in the Southern lowlands., nestled gently in the backwaters between Bluffton and Port Royal. The dirt road that leads to the Heyward Cemetery and old plantation site is nearly covered from view by the main road, but is marked by small, yet regal, historical placard. If you see the Exxon at the intersection of 462 and 336, you are in the right place. Slightly south of the gas station, you turn at the sign onto an otherwise unmarked road and drive (avoiding trees), until you hit an open field to your right. The small cemetery is located ahead, but be warned- it is right on the border of private property!
Once you pull off the highway and turn onto backroads, you WILL encounter some strange disturbances in the space time continuum. This happens from time to time, I have found, across the Alabama-Georgia-Carolina sweep.
I'll write about Thomas Heyward soon!
